Hitch

So in an earlier post I mentioned our new puppy named Hitch, well I finally have a cute picture of him, thanks to my sister-in-law. We jumped the gun in buying him, but after seeing that cute face, we couldn't leave him in the pet store. So we picked him up Easter weekend and took him to Richfield with us. After some issues, we realized that we would have to sell him. After debating with Kevin's family, his brother and sister-in-law volunteered to dog-sit until my brother and sister-in-law could pick him up on their way back from Kansas (they are keeping him until we get a house) When they picked him up, they noticed he just wasn't acting like a puppy and took him to the vet in Richfield. They were given some de-worming medicine and a nutrition supplement. After several days of trying to force feed the poor little guy, they took him to an awesome vet in Hurricane who said it could be 1 of 2 things. Either severe dehydration, or a liver shunt problem which would cost over $3,000 to fix. So he gave him a days worth of IV fluids and some new dog food and we all wished for the best. Within a couple of days he was starting to act more like a puppy but didn't want to eat dog food, instead he thinks he has to have human food. The only way they could get him to eat or drink was by giving him pedialyte or watering down chicken broth. My sister-in-law got creative and slathered little pieces of turkey with the dog food and stuck it to the floor. Hitch seemed to think he was getting just what he wanted, but didn't realize that so were we. After a second round of IV fluids and a new brand of moist dog food, Hitch has really turned a 180! The vet was so surprised to see how well he was doing after just 3 days and had said Hitch was so bad that he was sure that it was a liver problem. I'm glad that it's not looking like a liver problem and am so glad for 2 great families to help us out! We know it's been an inconvenience for a lot of people, but know that it will be worth it! Thanks again Nate & Melinda and Jayson & Ora!
